It is worth looking to see if there are assessment or tax rolls for Marion County in the late 1840s. These could be coordinated with the census, and reveal things such as pleasure carriages, gold watches, etc.

Working with the deed index (16 mm, black bgknd on white) and then the resulting deeds did not prove particularly fruitful. The question (did they buy country estates) will not be easy to answer this way.
