Our reviewer, Bridgett Williams-Searle, is Assistant Professor of History at
the College of St. Rose, Albany, New York, where she is a Residential Fellow
at the Center for Citizenship, Race, and Ethnicity Studies. Her
manuscript-in-progress, "Intimate Empires: Sex, Race, and Law in the Old
Northwest, 1760-1830," was recently awarded the Westerners International/Phi
Alpha Theta Award for best dissertation in western history, 2005-2006. Her
next research project examines the expansion and transformation of slavery
systems, kinship, and imperial citizenship in the Great Lakes region
(transnationally defined), 1760-1840.
