Vernon's presidential address was like a textbook for this project. Its definitions of community are interesting, as are its discussions of the intersection between the structural questions of social history and the role of the new cultural turn, as well as his examination of the connections between local and national/transnational political structures.

We need to read the transnational identities piece in the JAH too.
